MKT’s lease with the Missouri Pacific terminated. Vicious fight over I&GN ended when I&GN was awarded to MoPac in exchange for a cash settlement…”

“…1903, MAY: Line completed from Spring through Valley Junction, Waco to Fort Worth…”

".…1905, JULY 1: I&GN permits MKT use of tracks between Austin and San Marcos. This allows Katy to route trains direct from San Antonio to Austin, rather than through Smithville and San Marcos…"

Information on KATY at this link as well:

According the Official Railway Guide I have the MKT DID NOT have tracks to Austin they served the city via Motor Transport only.

According to Streamliner Schedules, which claims to draw its information from Official Railway Guides, the November 1948 guide shows that the Texas Special (Frisco and MKT) stopped in Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and San Antonio. It came into Austin from the north after stopping in Waco, Temple, and Georgetown, where I live.

The train may have run over the Missouri Pacific from Austin to San Antonio. If it did it was about two hours behind the Texas Eagle as per the December 1948 timetable.

The RR guide I quoted from is July 1979 & shows that Austin was only Frt Service & as I said was served by truck not rail for MKT [:)]

The book itself is published by National Railway Publication located in NYC at that time [:)]
