So, will the 70th anniversary box car scheme be retired now?
Mark
Congratulations to all the MR staff that have kept a great publication going for 75 years.
I can’t claim to have every issue, but I have been reading MR for the past 40 years and it has been a great inspiration to me as well as keeping the hobby alive during the years I didn’t have a layout. I don’t think I’ll get to see the 75th anniversary box car up close so thanks for this photo.
Can’t wait for the 100th!

Cool. I hope I get to see it in Minnesota.
How long do you think it will be before it gets tagged?
Tom
The old 70th MR anniversary car will remain in service, according the the Wisconsin & Southern shop manager, and probably won’t be repainted for another five years.
So for the time being there will be two MR cars to look for on the rails.

So when is Athearn going to produce them?

In what kinds of industrial areas or yards do these go through? I have looked extremely hard for this boxcar and must be blind. Maybe if I camp out near the local railyard, I might get a glimpse of one. Or maybe I work too many hours. LOL
This car has just left the shops in Horicon Wisconsin. The others that WSOR has painted have gone cross country. If you look in the “Where is the MRR Boxcar now” Forum below layout design, electrical, and Prototype forums, there will proably be thread(s) on it;s whereabouts and where it’s heading. We have a few WSOR employees on here that are in the know.
This car is carrying Canned Goods usually, according to the above news article. So it can be anywhere there’s canned goods to be deliverd.
Sooooo---- If I was to approach a railroad(way) and ask to put a slogan on one of their boxcars what would be the chance? I was thinking of something for sale, a cute motto, a message to an unruly neighbour, a political slogan(Government needs fixin’) or some other such message for the public. Was there a fee paid for the MR logo? This MR logo is a great idea.
Well, the WSOR runs in the area of MR, and it advertises MR, so MR profits from the car, and MR’s popularity rubs off on WSOR to people who know about the car, so WSOR gets good publicity. It’s basically a win-win situation for both companies involved. However, I’d be interested to know more info about this.
I know it won’t come by my town. All that comes rolling by here is coal, coal, and more coal. Both lines, CSX and NS. Theres a CSX yard/main line about 20 miles away, but I don’t think it will make it there either. You never know thou.
As of last night the car was still sitting outside the paint shop.
The canned goods cars (RBLs) go all over the place. There are 7 places that load them. They usually go to Chicago, then the BRC routes to the bigger line that takes it to its destination. Sometimes they get loaded with beer from Miller. Those get handed off to the CP, for furtherance to its destination.
I was hoping for Atlas to make them, as their car is closer to scale. The Athearn car has a 50’ underframe, and the rest of the car is shrunk a bit. The Atlas car also has brake rigging detail. Atlas has a 60th anniversary coming soon…
Wow, not that what I call blue!. I doubt I’ll ever see it this far south and on UP rails that go through my town.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Once this car goes into service, it;s pretty well free to go where ever.
And besides, didn’t a CN engine in route to a shop end up way South of their border? Surly a Ca carrying car can get to ya
