The Model Railroader’s Gude to STEEL ML

The Model Railroaders Guide to STEEL MILLS is an extraordinary book that more than serves the needs of a model railroader interested in building a model of any part of the steel making process on a layout. I read the book from the perspective of one who “had fought the bull” on a blast furnace at Bethlehem Steel’s sprawiiing integrated facility on the shores of Lake Erie in Lackawanna NY just outside of Buffalo. The description of the iron and steel making process from raw materials to furnace types was spot on. I could almost smell the sulfur dioxide as I read. The writing is crisp and clear. The model sections give you more ideas than you could possibly do yourself. A steel mill is a modeler’s delight and Bernie Kempinski shows you how to join in the fun in the fun. A great buy that every modeler should have on th

Excellent writing, describing the steel process as the industry evolved. This allows the modeler to accurately represent steel making based on their modeled era. It also allows the modeler to develop the “story” of the mill with modeled improvements and changes to the site. Great help, and I can’t wait to start my steel empire.
