The Model Railroader’s Guide to Grain
All the “Model Railroader’s Guide to” and the “Industry” books by Jeff Wilson are excellent.
The grain book is no exception.
A Model Railroader’s guide to grain operations is a book I would like to get. If I decide to add a grain mill on my model railroad, I am sure I would find a reasonably good mill to build for my layout. I have the cars that would be ready to go into the mill. I have gone by a grain mills in Sangerfield, NY, Waterville, NY and Cassville, NY with cars awaiting pick up by the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway. I have plenty of interest in modeling a grain siding with grain mill would be kind of nice to have on my model railroad. I will give it some thought on whether to add a siding for the grain operations. I already have refirgerator cars on a siding for citrus warehouses on my layout because I model a great small town in Florida that may have been served by the Seaboard Air Line or the Atlantic Coast Line.
Great pictures and detailed descriptions
A great source of information!
Lots of great prototype information. I was hoping to see some chapters on modeling the industries and on kits available for buildings and rolling stock that were included in other books from the guide to industry series books like Jeff’s book in the intermodal industry and those about the steel, coal and lumber industries.
Excellent book; I learned a lot about the grain industry (never realized there were so many variations among covered hoppers!). Definitely a 5-star effort, Jeff.
Purchased this book from another vendor a couple of months ago. Great photography and archival footage. Excellent guide book for model railroaders wanting to model the grain industry. I rebuilt my HO layout 2 years ago and included the grain industry.
A fine piece of work. As a grain farmer I can say the information is very good.
A great book wish more were like this
Great book about Grain, with a load of information also found in the Trains special. The Canadian side of the bussiness could have been better overlooked, in my opinion. Very well documented overview of the enormous amount of cover hoppers.
Overall: THANK YOU.
