I’ve always been a fan of the Coen Brothers and their off-beat comedies such as “Raising Arizona,” “Fargo,” and “The Hudsucker Proxy.”
I just caught their latest on DVD, “Intolerable Cruelty” with George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones.
Anyway, Edward Herrmann plays a wealthy fellow with a very different take on our favorite hobby.
I loved the engineers hats and the full sized Santa Fe Warbonnet F-7 nose mock-up.
I’ve always wondered how railfans could get romanitc.
Adults only!
The film is not about railfans. One of the supporting charactors is though.
The story is about a high priced divorce lawyer who falls for the soon-to-be-ex wife of his client. It’s the client who is the railfan.
I thought it quite funny, though some of our brethern might not see the joke.
The film is rated at a PG-13, so adults only.
A word to the wise: I watched that movie last night and I have to say it’s one of the worst movies I’ve seen recently. The title was perfect, because it was intolerably cruel. Not funny in the least. Not even Catherine Zeta Jones can change my opinion of that movie.
However, that being said, that life-size F7 mock-up in his house is pretty awesome. I was just thinking this morning about it’s whereabouts right now. It’s probably in a large warehouse or in a landfill by now.
My advice for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie but wants to see the F-7, fast forward until there’s about 20 minutes left in the movie!
thier are still a few people in hollywood that understand that the rail roads where and still are an amermican ICON… thiere are also a few actors that are rail buffs…1 comes to mind off the top of my head…michel gross…any of you that that remember him…he was the father on the TV show…Family Ties… one of my coworkes that came over from amtrak has met him many times on the train… also…whoppie goldburg is also a rail nut… she rides amtrak on a regulerly…
The movie is “The Station Agent” it came out last summer. Its about a Railfan who inherits a delapidated old station and moves in and what happens with him and his nieghbors, Oh and the railfan is a “Little Person” with alot of represed anger, its a very good movie, the scene of the railfan meeting is funny!
Its an offbeat lowkeyed comedy thats really worth a look.
