I wonder if Atlas, Athearn or Walthers will have fly-apart cars and trucks to set on the tracks of layouts… Hey, this movie looks ALOT better than “Atomic Train”.
The title gives away nearly the entire storyline. Great footage of the Alaska RR though.
Very bad adaptation of some very good writing by Jack London. A total waste of the talents of two very fine actors - Ernest Borgenine and Lee Marvin. Do yourself a favor and read The Road, by Jack London and From Coast to Coast with Jack London, by A-No 1, you’ll never waste your time on this movie again!
The best “train” movie to come out of WWII.
I would add, Von Ryan’s Express. Not a great movie, but a “fun” one.
The most recent occurance of a runaway train in a film is the first dream sequence in Inception, when it makes a completely unexpected appearance in a typical action film chase sequence. A friend of mine who is into movie special effects assures me that the locomotive sequence is not model work, or CGI. According to an article he read it was filmed on a real lot, using real automobiles. The “locomotive” is a fiberglass shell riding on top of an 18-wheeler!
Maybe some of the folks here are still upset about those CSI episodes with the old and fat model railroader/serial killer, lol.
It’s true most of today’s movies are kind of hard to believe but you got to admit the special effects are the best there ever has been. I remember when Star Wars was the best but now with todays technology it’s just incredible what movie producers can come up with.
Please show me how you got “corrupt” out of the message. The inquiring mind wants to know? Are you a “Spin Doctor”? Politicians use spin doctors a lot.
“…One of my favorite train movies was “Disaster on Coastliner”. Filmed in the early 1980s, it starred William Shatner…”
“…Isn’t that the “young Captain Kirk” (JJ Abrams trek movie) with Denzel…”
Wait a minute - TWO James T. Kirks in TWO train movies? There is no such thing as coincidence.
I probably won’t see the movie because I just can’t stomach Denzel Washington (“Come look at me, I am ACTING! In fact I am acting so much I am OVERACTING!”) Makes me think of John Lovitz’s “Master Thespian” character on the old SNL.
If I need a movie train fix, I’ll watch Tough Guys starring Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. Entertaining movie with lots of good shots of UP 4449. It even “crashes” at the end!
Same here, I’m the product of 40+ years of exposure to Bug Bunny, Three Stooges, Road Runner, Tom & Jerry, Lone Ranger, Thunderbirds, and a slew of other stuff modern helicopter parents consider “too violent” for their over cajoled over wieght taxied around to everything kids. I’m one of the mellowist people you’ll ever meet.
So dont worry about it or I’ll have to drop a Wiley Coyote approved Acme Anvil on your head (just kidding of course) [;)]
I hope this flick is in 3D on Imax! [:P]
BTW Buster Keaton “The General” BEST TRAIN MOVIE EVER [bow]
but I’m sure far far too violent for some parents, yeah right. [:o)]
If you enjoy “action” movies and enjoy trains, you’ll probably this movie, but I doubt it’s going to take much acting(over or otherwise) to pull off. mh.
Whao!! Are you kidding me? You think Denzel is overacting? I have never thought that ever, in fact I have never even heard anyone say that about him. He is a talantend actor that makes MILLIONS of dollars. Let’s see you get up there and act. It’s not easy, or we would all be doing it.
The rest of us will enjoy this movie, and you can go watch Tough Guys, a 1980s movie.
