I have been thing hard about getting some of these for some of my engines, but I had a one major burning question…
I have not been able to find this out on the net, (MRC web page has somethign to be desired) I have a the MRC Prodigy System, which is great, but very limited on controls. Will I be able to control the volume on those decoders?
My BLI Cab Foward has a manual knob for the volume. How do the MRC’s decoders work?
Any thoughts or stories of personal use would be great! Thanks alot.
Yes, these decoders are out. Even seen them on ebay. Anyways, with the Prodigy I do not believe you will be able to adjust the sound levels. I was looking at the manual for the decoder and the sound is adjusted by CV settings. The prodigy cannot access individual CV’s. The Prodigy Advance does though.
From reading reviews, the sound is quite loud by default.
Are these the same sound decoders that are in the sound equipped Athearn Genesis F units?
Not trying to rain on anyone, but if they are then modelers that are expecting “accurate” prototype sounds will notice that the MRC decoders leave quite a bit to be desired.
As I stated on my other thread, the sounds the F units made were dynamic and clear, but artificial…as if generated on a professional musician’s electronic keyboard.
The Soundtraxx DSX, though it must be used with a separate motor decoder, is much more accurate and realistic since the sounds were recorded from prototype locomotives.
Hopefully if someone here obtains and installs a new MRC decoder they’ll chime in with their feedback.
That, is what I was afraid of. I know they are going to come loud, and I want to turn them down, to a " nice level". That’s a bummer. Oh well. Thanks for looking that up for me.
