The plan. Separate yard in the future that wraps around upper most basement column.
Ambitious! [:D][tup]
Track planning; my favorite part. Watch the edges. Nice graphics.
Thanks!
The edge clearance was set at two inches except where the future rail yard would be constructed. Do you see those little purple squares used for spacing at edge?
One thing RR Track 5.0 would not let me do was to add a batter to the outside legs of the trestle piers which counteracts the centrifugal force as the train speeds around the curve. I remember laughing at a photo of a trestle in CTT where the pier’s legs were not battered knowing that even a heavy model locomotive could take it down if the track joints were not tight and soldered.
Joists will be constructed of 1x3 with a masonite facing board and curtains. The curtains will be the black landscaping material available at Lowes.
I have already eliminated two of the four switches on the lower loop. Not needed.
Do you operate your trains or mostly loop running? If I was starting over I might not have any switches.
There’s rivet counting and then there is Buckeye taking it to a whole new dimension!
Nice job on the layout plan Buckeye!
When guests visited my former layout, they would operate the trains with a CAB-1 or LC+ controller. As the late Chuck “Blueberry” Mathews said, "When you operate Buckeye’s layout, you really run the trains." I believe in the video below, the oldest grandson and I were running the trains and the youngest grandson was amazed we didn’t crash.
Normally we ran three trains, but on occasion we had five short trains running using cruise control.
Roy please remember I use POT bearings on my bridges, too. [(-D]
Looks great Buckeye!
Jim
Thanks Jim.
Looks good. Will be nice to see it as it progresses.
Mike C. from Indiana
Thanks Mike. As displayed on my former layout, Garrett, Indiana, the home of the Railroaders, will again be prominent with water tower, station and billboard. As a kid, I loved visiting Garrett to watch the B&O passenger trains stop for crew changes.
The progress has slowed due to my surgery, but there has been progress.
Levelers with a non-mar finish.
Looking good Buckeye
Third table done.
It looks like you’re taking the time to build great bench work. Should make for an excellent layout !
Paul
Thank you Paul.
Building L-girders.
Forth table.
First joist @ 16" centers.
Gusset bracing.
I love Irwin clamps. When I built the orginal BO&W all I had were C clamps. [sigh]
7th and 8th grade shop class plus good tools really helps.
Wow !
Just the bench work alone is a work of art !
Can’t wait to see the layout !
Paul
The main table is completed with all the joists installed. A benefit of L girder construction is the attachment of the joists. Screws are installed upward and into the joists. First OSB board placed but not secured.
OSB Boards installed and squared with Irwin clamps. After squared, temporary wood screws hold in place. The adjoining tables are not connected to the main table at this time.
Track is being used to determine where the OSB will be cut for the different layout elevations. I hate Realtrax, but it is what I started with 15 or more years ago beforre Fastrack appeared on the scene. I really wished my dealer had told me about Gargraves and Ross.
This is my main control point for laying out the track. There are other control points
L_ooking goo_d, Buckeye.
Is that next r_oom for future expansio_n?
