The new "CTC Board" magazine

I recieved my issue of Railroad Illustrated the other day, and was marginally impressed with the product. It is good to hear that they will be putting the “news” articles back into the magazine. To me, it sounds as though we are getting a better quality CTCBoard magazine.

Had heard they were coming out with a new magazine. Perhaps I’ll check it out at the hobby shop. Glad to hear the news is back in.

I always liked their magazine. It was a very good balance between excellent photo-features plus the current news of each line. Lately I have turned to TRP Railroad. Not as good as CTC when they were in their prime, but good, very good.

If you liked the old CTC Board you will like the new Railroads Illustrated. The current issue, number 333 features feature articles on New England Railroads, the DM&E, Deseret Railroad, a Howard Ande color feature and a Conrail signal farewell. There is an Opening Shot and Parting Shot pair of photos. The new magazine shows promise. I do hope they try to work in some of what Paul Schneider tried to bring to the magazine as well.

I wish Cinthia and Kevin well with the magazine.

I remember when Kevin EuDaly was a teenager. Quite the railfanning family–Kevin, his three brothers, and their dad, Dr. Jim.

Anyway, the first issue of the new mag arrived a couple of days ago, and I’m good until 2009, according to the subscription label (guess Hundman sent out more renewal requests than magazines toward the end!). This one looks more like the slick-paper version I used to enjoy, with black backgrounds to photo pages, and attractive layouts. I’m looking forward to having the news return; the news they carried was often more specialized than what appears in the major magazines–I missed it when they gave up on it.

As for TRP, there’s no comparison. They look like rank amateurs (maybe that’s why the person who recommended that mag to me liked it so much–kind of childish.)

I let my subscription lapse to CTC Board because i didnt like the new format with just pics and i honestly thought they were going under. So now i still get Trains after 30 some years and i get Railpace because of the part of the country i live in. I wish sometimes Trains had a couple more pages to devote to news but i imagine it would be to costly.
