I second the new look as great. The only thing I don’t like is that it appears I will not be receiving the TRAINS newsletter since I am not a subscriber. My 3 year subscription to MR Magazine doesn’t count!!![2c]
Go back and read the sticky post again. Our e-mail newsletters are still free. The Trains News Wire requires a subscription to Trains magazine.
Try to remember that Trains and Model Railroader, while they are own and operated by the same company, and they share the same Web site, they are two separate entities.
When you take your car in to get the oil changed, do they also change the oil in your wife’s car for the same price?
Thanks for coming back to the site. I hope you’re enjoying everything. Since you’re an MR subscriber, you should check out the Product Review section. You can add comments and star ratings to products now. Should be helpful for future shopping.

Looks like the transfer was pretty seamless, and the new “look” is easier on the eyes. Glad to be “back” “home”.

Bergie,
So far, I’m not impressed. Since there doesn’t seem to be a back button, how do I get back to the forum I was looking at without going through the whole list again? Is there a way to just have one of the forums come up instead of all of them?
Bob Hayes
Well… it arrived with no problems… that got me worried for a start…
No smilies ! !
It loads nice and fast even on dial up.
Guess we’ll get used to it.
Where’s the “Watch this topic”? that was really useful…
How do i identify topics I’ve already read from the list? they don’t appear to change colour like they used to. That was REALLY useful.
Otherwise… hmmm… we’ll see…
I haven’t a chance to fully explore the site, but one feature I am pleased with is the order history under the subscriber services. With all of the annual issues that come out, I had trouble remembering which ones I had ordered. I had my cancelled check as backup but I didn’t write down which issue I paid for. Now Kalmbach has taken care of my failure to keep track of my purchases [:)]
Bob:
Things change, and you just have to adapt.
All I did was create a new bookmark in my browser and shazzam! One click gets me there.
No biggie. [swg]
At the top of all the pages your viewing under “welcome back Bob Hayes” there is a line of where you are now, click on the right end general dis and it takes you back there.
Ken.
We still have smiles, see! [:)][:D][8D][:P][(-D][swg]
Let’s face it, the internet is eating up ad money. Last January’s issue of MR was so thin that it looked like a mid-summer issue. The main reason I’ve visited this site for the last 5 years is to read the Newswire and now I’m required to subscribe to Trains, just to read it. No thanks! I would however, consider an online subscription, at a drastically reduced price.

Things are looking very good to me.
OK, how many of you guys see a drop down box for font size, color, etc when you hit “Reply”? It seems that some folks have it and some don’t. I do not have it either.
Hello I made it to .I like the new look sill just as lost but findeing my so far. [:)]
Only thing I miss so far is the quick reply box. I liked being able to look at the whole page of the thread while typing a reply. Other than that I’ve only seen small style issues that we’ll all get used too in no time.
I get it if I am using Firefox, but not with Safari (Mac) or Icky Exploiter (old, old version, they haven’t supported the mac for a couple of years - nobody wanted it…[:P]) So I have made Firefox my default browser for now…
Umm, whats going on with links? I typed in the whole URL and it doesnt activate! And I dont have ANY options for posts, like smilies, sizes, color, etc! Im really un impressed with the new “bell and whistles”, but i like how it looks. Alec
Joe, Ken,
The problem turned out to be caused by the re-register page. After filling out the requested info, I clicked on go to forum, and ended up on a forum page that didn’t have any of the stuff that shows up on the second line of this page. In frustration, I inadvertently logged out. When I loged back in, everything was alright, although tonight when I tried to post this message, it told me I was loged in, but I couldn’t get to the forum; kept getting 404. Maybe it will get better in a couple of weeks

Hi crew!
I’m slowly reading and getting used to this format.
I miss being able to see who’s online on the forum whether one is reading a topic choice page or individual threads. Instead it’s on another page.
I’ll continue to read and learn. When I first joined back in 2003 it took me a long while to “learn the forum”. So it will be like starting over again.
One thing that surprises me…I expected that we would have more “railroad style” smiley faces such as a smiling engineer and saluting conductor. But the old smiley faces work too.
No offense, I don’t miss the stars at all but I do miss the old format style. I understand that it’s the old adage of “Progress”!
Peace and High Greens.
