The Pennsylvanian

The website of Western Pennsylvanians for Passenger Rail (www.wpprrail.org) has articles and other information concerning the Pennsylvanian funding issue.

One thing I find interesting is that the Pennsylvanian is a relatively short route, much less than 400 miles between Philadelphia and PIttsburgh. This is exactly the kind of intercity route that experience shows can make money. There is a problem with a right of way that was laid out before the American Civil War, expecially between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. When an interstate was involved the solution was simple: The Federal Government built a new Interstate HIghway, I-99. But this is a railroad. And because it is a railroad rather than a highway all it gets from the Feds is a whack job.
