I have a buddy named Steve that is one of the biggest misers in the world… I took him model train shopping with me a while back, and after looking at the prices on some of the locos and rolling stock, he said - You know, I think that these train manufacturers are coating these model train items with some kind of an addictive chemical that’s absorbed through the skin, but that wears off after a little while causing you to come back in here and buy more stuff so you can get another fix and continue the vicious cycle… At first, it struck me as really funny, then I started to kind of worrying about the guy because he never laughed. He’s also the guy that said he suspects aliens abducted Jimmy Hoffa…
Whew! Just got back from the LHS, strangely I always feel better after spending some $$$ on Hobby stuff. There were a couple of other hobbyists in the shop too. One was named Jim something or other. Anything new around here since I was gone?? LOL
Maybe it’s addictive, but the side affects don’t seem to be as bad as other substances. Also I’ve yet to hear of model railroaders resorting to muggings to feed their habit…
I though Hoffa was living with Elvis in a bus on the Moon? (old Brit tabloid “silly season” story)
I will come clean, I have been keeping the change from my girlfriend when I go to the store for groceries, I have been taking a coupe of quarters from the kids piggybank and I am currently embezzeling money from work to meet my train habit. I am wondering if there is a support group I can join?
Just a bunch of WS scenicing flocking, bushes, and undergrowth stuff. Working full time to get the “Icehouse and Mountain” diarama into the layout before the painter arrives to seal the basemant walls and hopefully stop the water leaking in… Twenty years ago when it was painted, I didn’t mind crawling around on my hands and knees for a few hours scaping and painting. Old age seems to be approaching… I should have some new photos to post next weekend for the Photo Fun thread. My sister (the artist!) came over today to take several photos of the layout to “show a friend”. I shudder to think what she has in mind for Christmas… LOL
I also think it goes through the mice when we visit this forum…when I first started going to this one i did a detail-my-locos-athon. At least in this addiction we have something to show for our $$ besides lung cancer.
