The RIP Track

In the June 2010 issue of MRR on page 20 is a photo and discussion of the RIP track. But, the photo does not identify the RIP track.

Is the RIP track a generic term for the shop and nearby trackage, is it all 3 tracks at the bottom of the photo, or is a single track considered the RIP track?

Thanks.

Rich

RIP track, stand for Repair In Place. If a car suffers minor damage or a minor mechanical problem, the RIP track is equipped to make a repair so the car can resume its journey.

Rich, in the case of the photo on page 20 of the June MR, the three visible tracks in the foreground could all be considered RIP tracks. The RIP track(s) are simply one or more set aside for minor car repair and their number is likely to vary depending on the size of the yard itself. And, yes, the track(s) would likely have a small adjacent shop building and a car parts storage area.

Great, thanks CNJ831. That’s what I was looking for. I always assumed that the RIP track was a single track until I saw that photo.
