The Roundhouse, Episode 3

Hal - I agree SD40 is the iconic freight locomotive - and being from Pueblo Colorado the “T” on the D&RGW were the ultimate.

Need to have accessories - open space, just some open scenery to separate the towns. I think modelers get so preoccupied with maximizing the space the tendency is to put too much on and what is lost is a sense of travel. Kind of plays into minimalism a bit too.

Bring the Bumper music WAAAAAY down. I was a Dj for 31 years and it is even too loud for me. If I forget to drop my volume control to about 20 before it comes on I blow the house down.

In the “Minimalist vs Super Detail” discussion as a professional builder I think Dana summed up what most of my clients want “consistancy”. If they don;t have the budget to do a super detailed railroad throughout then it tends to look unfinished if you have one or two super detailed scenes and the rest are minimalist because that is all the budget they have.

What railroad gets the most play??? Definitely the UGLY P…

I almost thought I wasn’t a Pennsy modeler, and then I realized my catenary is pennsy, my electrics, though patched for Conrail, were mostly Pennsy… I’ve been trying to get some Ex-Reading, ex CNJ, and Ex LV onto my layout, but its hard to escape the PRR flavor that persists in New Jersey railroading even today.

Heck, the Amfleet cars are based on the Metroliners, which were Pennsy cars (even if only for a short time before Penn Central).

Pennsy, NYC? I live in the southwest, it’s SP, UP and SF.

The best freight locomotive ever was the Alco RS-1 because it was the first road switcher!
