The Royal Canasta

PNQ buys new high speed tilt trains

The PNQ has recently bought 8 new 10 car passenger trains based on the Amtrak Acela. The new trains do not run on electricity but diesel-hydraulic power. They have 12-710G4C-2 engines which produce 4000hp. They have Voith hydraulic transmissions which provide a smooth application of power to the rails. The new trains have officially been named Royal Canastas. The name comes from the card game Canasta, the Royal part of the name comes from the number of cars in the train, 10, and in the game canasta the royal cards are 10 points and thats how many cars are in the train. The Royal Canastas will operate on the dual gauged tracks from Townsville to Cairns Along side the narrow gauge freights. The trains are to be painted in the new Queenslander paint scheme.
