Fabulous link … shows what can be done to existing cars to create some of the 1 of a kind cars no one else has instead of the usuual same-o ! Hats off to all of these areas !
Outstanding link, it gives us freedom to be inventive when it comes to old rolling stock. I really like The Hurricane, gives me an idea on a track cleaning machine. Thanks
Very nice to see the different types of snow removal equipment.
The first four scenes remind me of the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s as I observed the Soo Line & the CNW operate in the Upper Peninsula
of MI… Thanks for an idea of a model I can scratch build for my
pike of that era.
Very interesting and informative…never saw any plows like these before!
Very fine !
Snow Fighting Arsenal:
Canadian Pacific added ice breakers to FP7s used on the Canadian. I am trying to model them in N scale. Are they available commercially? If not, is there any information available on the dimensions and location on the units?
Don
Very nice pictures off snow plows unknow in Europe and in Belgium!
Great Pictures and Great Ideas for the MOW Track.
The Southern Pacific Lines had some very interesting snow removal pieces of equipment. These pieces were used on the Donner (Sierra Nevada) section of the railroad.
Later on (more or less modern times) the use of retired F7B units as power for the old steam (Shay) run rotary snow plows. These F7B’s did not propel these rotarys instead they provided the electrial power to turn the “Wheel”. The traction motors off the B unit were installed in the plow (they replaced the steam engine) . The plow was propeled by road locomotives (usually 2 SD40’s or SD45’s). Very impressive show.
These snow plow cars (and their newer versions) were useful and interesting in their day, but we all know they will not be needed in the very near future! Believe it or else!
Great!
A great and resourceful way to put old tenders to work instead of cutting them up and throwing them out.
Great article, at least this give me some scratchbuilding ideas. For my layout, The PM.
Very interesting plows. But you forgot the most commom ice and snow fighting equipment, the switch broom and the track bar in the hands of signal maintaners and track gangs.
thats what i call recycling
Great.
great article
Great ideas to keep traffic moving.
Cant see locals been happy with the jet egine idea in the night. Make for a great model with sound fitted.
