Let’s see. I built my last layout when I was 23, newly married, and no kids yet. I’m now building a layout again and I’m 61. So thats, what, 37 years between laying track. [:)] Never lost my interest in model railroading and subscribed to MR the whole time. I’d look at some of those really nice layouts and just drool. Then they’d show the picture of the guy that built it and he looked like my grandfather. Actually, it looked kind of like a picture of me would look now. Time flies when you’re having fun. [:(!]
So, don’t worry about it, model railroading will fit into your life when the time is right and it will still be there when you have more time.
I very rarely touch my layout in the summer. Between yard work, car shows, fishing, ATVing etc who has time to work on the layout. For me Model Railroading is a winter time hobby, once spring comes I’m like a bear out of hibernation, “Get me out of this cave”, lol. Obviously I still have an interest but my layout building is done when the snow hits.
Don’t feel bad Chip. I’m in the same boat you are. If I’m not on the mower trying to keep up with this rotten lawn, I’m being called in to work overtime for someone that can’t come in on my days off… Oh well. Maybe this fall and winter things will slow down enough that I can get out to the train room and get a few things done that I’ve been wanting and/or needing to do.
Oh well - I finally got started again yesterday, after a nearly 8 week long summer break. Nothing complicated - just assembled a Faller road bridge kit. Now I am ready to continue on the layout again.
