The top paint schemes that should be ressurected.

I have to say that I would love to see the CSX paint an ACe or SD40-2 in the old purple-silver Atlantic coast line scheme. Who knows…if they did…perhaps (as mentioned in the thread on [url][/url http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=42503 by eolafan) that nice shiny passenger cars (or engines) can attract freight business that could help them out of their financial situation.

The WarBonnet SANTA FE!!! A new Gevo painted in silver and red

Warbonets are nice too! Those would have to be second.

I would even like to ee it taken a step further!
The 4 largest roads in the land have a plethora of heritage paint schemes they could use.
I’d like to see more of the big roads paint up some big units in fallen flag schemes, like NS did with the green Southern GP-59.
That ACL scheme would be one. Or an SD-70 variant in B&O first generation scheme, a Chinese Red or Black Widow Dash-9… and so on…!

How about the Il Terminal Lime green and pale yellow would look kind of nice.

Chessie System… nothing beats the cat

I sure hope all the big roads will take a cue from U.P. and offer similar “heritage” paint schemes such as BNSF offering one each in N.P., C.B.&Q., G.N., S.P.&S., etc., that would be truly great to see (but only after I actually see a “Swoosh” painted GEVO on the Aurora to Chicago main, which I have yet to do!!!).

I am all for that one 150% [:p]

IT used to run threw my town in Morton IL everyday, 3 nice looking SD’s and the occasional SW1500 at the point. I remember when they derailed in a creek area in the woods when I was like 6-7 years old and we went down into the woods to play and came upon all those cars scattered in the creek. Wow to be that young and know what I was really seeing [:(]

I just want to add my 2cents worth…The MOPAC Eagle passenger scheme in the orignal colors would have looked great on an SD70 or an AC4400 either one ! Imagine MOPAC blue, gray w/the yellow striping , on one of those babies ! They would put BNSF in the shade…And,BNSF aint ugly… Thank You, Danny

Go to the Illnois Raliway Museam. They got a Geep in that paint scheam. Also I agree whth the Chessie System. It looked good on the 2101.

First thing you’d have to ask, is “why would the railroad do this?”

We all know that UP is doing this to harrass modelers,…er I mean “protect their trademark rights”…so one would think the other railroads would need similar motive

They would also need to use liveries from lines that would give them the greatest “brand recognition”

Pennsylvania and NYC seem to fit that bill the best, but, as part of the conrail salvation of the PC and the recent split between NS ans CSX, who would claim what, for whom? Same goes for the New Haven “McGinnis” livery.

Other than those, I’d say the “Warbonnet” would be a good candidate and personally I’d like to see the Northern Pacific and the Great Northern get redone, but I feel the latter two would have such narrow appeal that they would never fly.

Afterall, this whole business isn’t about doing what appeals to railfans, is it?

I remember reading in Trains a few times how some of the upper management at various RR’s did have a desire/care about the heritage of their lines and wanted to honor them or remember them. I think Progressive Rail did this with MNS, Wheeling did some DRGW paint schemes to honor them.

Though I am sure they don’t care what we want…

Well, there is a rich heritage that could be cultivated to good effecr, and advertising people are always looking for a gimmick that would get peoples attention. this would SEEM to be an ideal made to order ‘gimmick’ just ripe for exploiting.

Trouble is here (as I see it anyway) that the people most likely to be impressed would not be the folks deciding how to ship 50 tons per day of freight, but rather just railfans…

The GG1 PRR paint scheme with the pin strips.

That would be great… With the traditional old style lettering. That was a great RR. The classic three tone blue B&O scheme was really nice too.

Definitely agree with warbonnet, Chessie silhouette and Brunswick-green-with pinstripes.

How about espee “Daylight” motif orange and red stripes? On local commuter train districts? (I assume Amtrak’s Emeryville service comes out of a common–or at least West Coast–pool and thus couldn’t maintain continuity of pattern.)

Cream & Green BN SD70MAC’s.
