The "Trackside" series, and more pictures

Quite a few months back there was a suggestion by some of the posters that we develop a thread including pictures that might have qualified for the weekly Trackside series. The latest collection, with the theme of unit coal trains, all seem to have what I would describe as a rather low-key exposition of the theme.

I will also admit I did not submit anything myself, in part because I was out of town and didn’t notice the announcement. But here are a couple I took on the eastern approach to Marias Pass 2 years ago that I think provide a much closer interpretation of the theme. Coal is obviously the commodity, as is the fact it is a unit train.

Other thoughts, and additional photos welcome!

John

I probably would have voted for the 2nd photo had it been entered.

Agreed!

I like both! And in the first one - you have everything!

Same for me–I did not submit either due to my lack of noticing the announcement.

cx500–I like your first photo the best, even more than what was offered in the contest.

I might have submitted this:

or maybe this:

Zardoz! That 2nd one came as a surprise! That’s definitely a coal train!

A few oldies. A couple from Erie in the late 80s and one from Portage PA in the early 90s

Still looking around for the photo I want, but until I find it, here’s one:

Hey, I kinda like this thread. It’s a neat way to see some photos from each other.

Zug, they really filled those cars to the max, didn’t they?

Zugmann: You caught the scene perfectly, and it matches the theme exactly!

Congratulations

John

This is a really interesting idea!

A Thread of the Readers, and by the Readers and Posters!

It Will be fascinating to see where it goes, and how long it lasts![:-^]

{A parallel topic might also be Unit Trains (?) as well. [2c] }

One person’s [2c]…
