The train was going where?

The article in the News Wire above stated that an UP train was headed from Houston, TX. to Turlock, CA. and that it had ammonia and chlorine tankcars in its consist, therefore it was probably a manifest. The problem is that Turlock does not have a yard, only a few sidings. The only trains that terminate in or around Turlock are locals or grain trains. It would seem like the only yard in California a train from Houston would go to is West Colton, possibly Roseville if they are bypassing West Colton because of the congestion. Anyone know what is going on here?

Colton to Mojave, then up over the Tehachapies and into the Valley to Turlock. Newspaperman probably looked at a manifest and picked off a destination for one of the cars involved.

Up the Bakersfield Line and Fresno Line.

I wonder if it was a case that the people at Trains did not have enough time so they were not paying attention or do not know where the major classification yards are in California. I sent them an e-mail the next day saying that this did not sound right.

It is almost painful to read most RR news reports they are so badly researched, written and reported. It really makes me wonder about the validity doing research by reading newspaper accounts.
