I finally got enough of my main yard, the drill track, and mail line layed to allow me to run some trains and do some classification switching. I’m so excited!!! Here are a couple of pics of my early progress. I’ll add a couple more when I take them later this week.
Looks great!
I noticed the cork roadbed you used in your yard.
I finally found some rolls of cork at Hobby Lobby the other day, two different thicknesses, one was 2 feet by 4 feet ( thickeest) and the other roll was 2 feet by 8 feet ( thinner),so I got one of each.
The thickest most closely matches my cork and my foam roadbed I have now.
I like your bridges, any chance you built them yourself?
Congrats![tup] That’s quite an accomplishment, probably the most significant milestone of building a layout - seeing that all the tracks you’ve laid and wired are actually doing their job! At least that’s how I saw it when I reached that point on my own layout a year ago.
Be sure to use your fussiest loco(s) and cars to test your track performance before laying any scenery or ballast.
I’ll join in on the congratulations. That is a good looking yard you’ve laid out and you have every right to be proud of the work. Enjoy testing your track work as you continue to build onto your empire.
What a great feeling there!! I surely remember when that came for me. I was about three weeks into the starting of my layout and laid track then hwas able to run some trains. It was GGGGGGGGGREAT as Tony the tiger would say!!!
1,066 post and you just now got trains runninfg? Looks like you spend too much darn time on the forums than you really should. You were a computer modeler up until the benchwork was started. Want to get alot more done and faster? I would suggest you slowly back away from the computer and go to the train layout.
Well, unlike some here, it took me 5 1/2 years to make that many posts. So actually you average more posts per day here than I do. [:O] I only spend 10-15 minutes a day on here. And the trains are running on my SECOND layout. My first ran for 5 years until my last move. If anything, time and $ constraints slow me down, not the amount of time I spend on this forum. [V]
Suddenly, there’s a railroad! That was my gut feeling about the difference between your first and second yard pictures. Beautiful!
Nothing like seeing the wheels turn (and the siderods churn) to keep layout-building incentive alive. Keep us informed as things progress. I promise not to be jealous.

Considering how new you are around here… you might want to hang out awhile and get to know poeple before you go popping off with comments like that.
MoPac… Looks really good man. That is a nice, simple, but classic looking yard. And congrats on the first lap. Nothing gets the fire going like the first revenue run
Congrats! I know that great feeling when you run the first trains without any hitches. You got an interesting and nice layout and I like those bridges out there. Cheers,
