Hey guys you know how when someone talks about the Transition Era you always think of the late 40’s through the middle-to-late 50’s, well there was another transition era and it was during the middle 60’s through the late 70’s[#dots]!!! If you L@@k pictures from that era and you’ll see colorful locos & cars. American railroads were changing from 2nd. generation diesels to 3rd. generation diesels, I say Amtrak had the most colorful fleet of cars ever because of all the passenger car they got from all the different railroads![:D]
Thanks, MNRailroader48
It sure was! That’s why Trains Magazine printed an issue nearly chock full of '70’s material back in March 2005.
That’s true, but you can identify many transition eras. For example, 1900 (and the decade on either side) was a time of transition with new safety equipment, closed vestibule passenger cars, steel frame cars, trailing truck locomoitves, etc. The railroads have gone through many transitions, but steam to diesel is the one everyone really noticed and is probably the most dramatic.
Enjoy

Railroads are a continual study in transition…from the founding of the B&O in 1828 to today…the continual mantra that has driven the transitions is move more product, faster, safer and at less cost.
