The ultimate "switcher"

I want one of these in HO and powered:

You could use one of these motors for the drive on it. It wouldn’t pull much but, would be a cool conversation piece.

I was thinking of these:

with a Flea gearbox from NWSL.

And naturally, the superstructure (if it can be called that! [(-D]) should be done in the heaviest metal available.

How 'bout a NYC NU-1B 0-8-8-0?

Must have been the “Bigboy” of the switching yard.

Tom

How about depleted uranium.

If you do it right there are some small drive chains/sprockets available somewhere out there.

You know, that MIGHT add enough weight to it to allow it to pull, assuming you’re talking about HO scale. [:D]

As for the chains and sprockets, that would work for On3 or larger, probably not so much for HO. The smallest ones I’ve seen are from Grandt Line, and they’re more geared (pun intended) for On3.

I got to get one of those. Hope it comes out in On30.

Neat!!!

Actually, the Central used these as pushers in coal service.

Well, that’s an old rustbucket. Looks cool, though. Now how about powering that puppy in N scale?

That is such a cool switcher!!!

It wouldn’t be too hard to make, but powered is another story…Archbar truck, a engine on top (made in HO already) and 2 seargent engineering dummy couplers.

I don’t think powering it will be too much trouble. Getting enough weight on it for good electrical pickup will prove to be the biggest challenge. By the looks of the chain guards on both axles I would surmise this “critter” is 4 wheel drive. That might even be posible with the right selection of drive pullys. I would think if you could overcom the electric issue it might be able to pull 1 light weight car. Now DCC… that might be the challenge.

Personally, I prefer using my 0-5-0 for most of my switching…

(I can’t believe nobody said that already)
