Took the family on a short little train ride. It was the first time my wife or kids had ever been on a “real” train. The power was a GP-7, pulling 3 1930’s era passenger cars and an open gon. My daughter was really excited to go (she likes trains alot), but my son would have liked to stay home and play with his Star Wars stuff (he’s 8).
Anyway, the train ride was nice - for those of you who live around Cincinnati, you may be familiar with the short trips that Cincinnati Railway’s runs out of Lebanon. We crossed several bridges, saw lots of cool old farmhouses and even an old school. It was a 1/2 hour ride down to some back acreage at a driving range - we went and played putt-putt.
Ride back was real nice, too. When we got back to the station, my son asked when we’d be coming back to ride it again! So, his interest in the trains and model railroad is “back on” again…
The DOWN’S - My motorcycle, which is my primary means of transportation to and from work, went belly up, terminal yesterday. So, I’ll be away from MRR for a while, parting out the old bike and trying to come up with something else to get me to work economically. Oh well, life goes on. At least the family was happy with their train ride!
sorry to hear about the bike pete but its great that your had family train fun. I think its important that the rest of the family can share in your interests in some way. Much better than you locking yourself away alone in the trainroom for hrs away from them. excellent news that your boys interest has spiked again.
Life is like that, isn’t it, Pete? You think it will be a great day (and it IS with trains involved), and then some thing comes up that throws cold water on it.
Would it be possible or you to use a bicycle to commute? I did that for years, year-round, up on the pairies and in eastern Ontario. Now that I am retired, I REALLY miss that commute, both to and from work. Whatever your situation, good for you for finding the economic way. [tup]
maybe this is your chance to give up on the scooters…I owned two Harleys over a 13 year period and I think i spent more time working on them than time riding them…most motorcycles are really "labor intensive " to keep them running…sorry to hear about your bike…hope everything ends up ok…chuck
I would love to ride a train to work, but none of my HO loco’s would hold my weight We live out sort of in the country, there is no “public” transportation out here…
I’ll need to get that DPM Bike shop kit that loathar mentioned and see what kind of a deal they can swing me.
Talk about the wrong time of year to look for a new motorycycle, though… Beginning of summer, and gas at $2.15 a gallon… I’m on the wrong side of the supply/demand situation…
I had a bike back in the early 80s. I got rid of it because I crashed into another guy on a bike and injured him really bad… It scared me so much that I sold it a few weeks later and that was the end of me and motorcycles.
I rode a train too this past Sunday. If I’d gotten some sleep the night before I’d have had more fun. Oh well.
We live out sort of in the country, there is no “public” transportation out here…
