The year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of America's independence

Maybe the trend will catch on and more railroads will follow. I think the W&LE lettering…gold was a good choice. I don’t remember the NW unit. I still remember the Milwaukee Road #156 and ran into a former Milwaukee Road Engineer that operated it in the lead a few times. He never knew there was a model of the engine in HO Scale and I got him interested in HO Scale trains…which was cool. Met on military dot com, he was a former Marine Vietnam Vet.

This loco has been preserved at the rail museum in Roanoke. It’s bicentennial paint scheme was redone by Norfolk Southern back in 2012.

The N&W sent the 1776 to Chicago in 1974 to haul the Orland Park commuter trains on the former Wabash Forrest District line.

Apparently they sent it every year for a week – probably around July Fourth – for the Orland Park Cannonball.

I often thought that loco looked like a hybrid of the Wabash and Frisco.
