There's a prototype for everything-well, in a sense

For those of you who own a brass steam loco & hate the thought of disassembling it to paint, well…

CB&Q 5632

Some of you already may have had knowledge of this loco, but it was news to me as to it’s temporary paint. I highly recommend browsing Mr.Bernard’s albums, as he has an absolute gold mine of “period” shots that he says he is still uploading as time permits. I find myself staying up too late (as I am now) getting lost browsing his stuff.

Tnx Eeeyore for this one. Now I know silver could be used!!![swg]

Ah, yes, the ‘brass’ Northern.

That paint job was applied when nitpickers (now known as rivet counters) were chastizing modelers for running their United and Tenshodo locos ‘undressed.’ Don’t know who decided to do the one excursion in that color scheme - but I DO know that it created a howl!!! [(-D]

At that time, all I could afford was rubber band Athearn BB diesels.

Chuck (modeling Central Japan in September, 1964)

I remember a short write-up in TRAINS about this paint job. CB&Q was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the building of the Aurora-Chicago main line and painted 5632 in gold paint for fantrips operated as part of the celebration. It was done with water-based paint so it could be removed quickly after the event.

Its not silver, it was gold.

Dave; I had xmas on the brain!! Silver & Gold!! [(-D]

It was another one of those you shoulda been there moments…[swg]
