Things I would like to see them make/remake

Hi all,
Just a quick post to ask what you would like to see one or more of the manufacturers make. With the companies turning out so many products, it would be interesting to see what those that are actually on the user end come up with. I would also be interested in forwarding any information onto the manufacturers to see if perhaps they will listen to us. Personally, I would like to see a O guage copy of the AF Mayflower set. I think it would sell well as did the remake of the Blue Comet. Thanks, Dennis

I’d like to see Williams put out a 675/2025 replica.

Speaking of this, does anyone know why Lionel had this engine in 2 numbers during the same time frames? I can’t find any descriptions that would make them different from each other. Was one in a set, the other not? Thanks, Joe

Many of Lionel’s locos had 2 different numbers back in the PW period. The 3 digit number meant it was sold with O gauge track in a set. The 4 digit number meant O-27 track was included. Same exact engine for the most part, such as 671/2020. But the 675 has a different boiler front than the 2025. The headlight is smack in the middle, where as on the 2025, it’s up top (looks better there).

Some other thoughts of what I’d like to see:
-A engine set that has a USB slot that you can set different parameters such as amount of smoke, whistle tone/volume, range of scale MPH, etc.
-Some non-toxic realistic black smoke
-I know it is fantasy, but how about a “break down train” that really works, having a camera, spot light, and articulated boom to reach derailments in those @#$% spots on the layout that we thought we had planned access to but somehow did not work out that way!
-iminent collision warning buzzer for when that turnout was in the wrong position.

live steam or at least remote control for toy trains

btw, I bought some grits at the commissary yesterday. Do you think they go good w/sardines???

Dave,

Aristocraft introduced a live steam remote control G guage loco last Spring at York TCA meet. It appears to be shipping now. Very reasonable price (esp for G guage live steam!) was shown in York at about $1600 apiece. I did not check current pricing.

Check it out. http://www.aristocraft.com/

The cut away prototype at York was very very impressive! Unfortunately they did not have an operating unit.

Like the Centipedes, it’s another “Naw, they couldn’t have ever really made those!” kind of engines. I had one when I was in HO scale that I painted and lettered in a fantasy scheme of PRR 5-strip tuscan. It looked great and I’d do it again in O gauge.

For Lionel: the 14 inch Conrail U36B in the exact paint scheme with all logos in the same exact location they were in, but THIS time with the DUAL motors it should have had in the first place at the SAME exact list price as before of $129.95. Other locos before and after were cataloged with single motors, yet had dual motors including the Ontario Northland RS3.

It is hardly worth all the extra cost and aggrivation to buy all the additional parts to make the Conrail U36B a dual motored engine, especially in light of Lionel offering dual motors on other units at the same cost.

Of course, back when the Conrail U36B was introduced (and I held one in ny hands) I had the money to spend on this kind of thing. The Lionel dealer I saw the engine at told me I’d be wasting my money on the loco as he thought it was an exceptionally poor puller and recommended any K-Line loco instead as being a better value - good job Lionel… make products that help sell the others guy’s stuff!

The reason I was that specific Conrail loco so much is that the 14 inch Lionel U36B has the general feel and look of a more modern locomotive that also runs comfortably on 027 curves. And unlike many of the very nice former Railking locos (which were also too tall) the Lionel U36B shell can be shortened in height to make it look so much better on a small layout with traditionally sized cars. Shortening the shell height actually makes the U36B look bigger because it loses the “shoebox on wheels” that it has out of the box. The previously offered Conrail scheme had all markings up high enough to allow my shell shortening prodcedure without ruining the paint job and having to repaint it again to Conrail again.

Had Lionel actually done this right the way they should have 2 years ago, it would finally after 16 years be the very first Lionel locomotive I didn’t have to repaint to either get the quality I wanted (non-translucent shell) or to get a road name I actually want.

Since the Conrail u

All the 675’s I’ve seen also have headlight on top. In any event, thanks for the O/O27 explaination…makes sense. Joe

Hello All! The 675 & 2025 had headlights mounted near the top of the front boiler. Olsens Toy Train Parts came out with a 675/2025 boiler front with a center mounted headlight and this is what Jim must have seen on someones 675.Hope this helps.

I was at a train show this weekend and saw two different 675s with center mounted headlights. Also, a few months back, CTT had an article about an old guy who ran his trains with the third rail on the outside. His 675 also had a center mounted headlight.

My mistake, but why would Olsen’s come out with a part so obviously wrong?

I’m kind of surprised that Williams hasn’t made a replica of the 675/2025 yet. It’s one of Lionel’s most recognizable locos. I think it would sell very well for them.

A small Tinplate station.

A 700K would be great-something I could point to and say “I made that one”. I’m also still waiting for MTH to make a Railking PRR T-1 or T-2, or the S-1 (with the 1939 World’s Fair paint job). I like the idea of a Williams #675 K-4. I’d be able to retire my very first train from '52.

Anything in Standard gauge.

I’m surprised they don’t make toy train corrugated diesels (maybe I can make my own with my corrugation tool that I posted a few pages back).

Some U30CGs, F40Cs, and E5s, both A and B were corrugated, among others.

Here’s a U-boat one…
