Thinking about jumping into Legacy

I am thinking about taking the plunge into the Legacy control system. I already have a CAB-1, a Trainmaster Command Base, a TPC 400 and a large Powermaster source. I saw an item called a Powerbridge in the new catalog. Do I need that and a CAB-2? Has anybody else tried this, and, if you did, how did it work out?

Thanks in advance,

George

The PowerMaster Bridge is only used if you have original PowerMasters. The CAB-1 talks to PM’s via the CB radio frequency. Other than the Command Base, all other communications is through the track signal or the serial port. The Legacy system uses the same frequency as WiFi, 2.4 ghz. BTW, If you use the CAB-1 and the CAB-2, do not try to control the same loco at the same time. The command codes from the CAB-1 only use relative speed steps whereas the CAB-2 can use relative, absolute or Legacy speed steps. The loco and the CAB-2 will get confused if you start sending both types of commands.

Chuck,

Thanks for the reply and the good information. Can you permanently damage the controllers by doing what you describe above? Does the confusion go away if you shut down the layout for a few minutes?

Thanks in advance

George

No damage, no permanent affect. You just need to shut down the affected engines.
