Thinking about switching to 12":1' scale

Think it will fit in my back yard?

BTW: Definitely qualifies as modeling as this is a working reproduction 4-4-0 American class near the MD/PA line. (Okay maybe bending the rules a bit, but definitely a fun 2 hour ride)

Is this one of those “should I do N Scale or HO Scale” questions?

Fraid so.

Any one know if I could use my Xuron Rail Nippers for the track? I really don’t want to start over and buy all new tools. That would be a lot of money. [:P]

DC or DCC? will you be using WS products or an off brand? [:D]

Kadee/MTL couplers?

DCC with sound for sure. But it’s going to be a pain fitting a proper speaker into that tiny tender.

And I’m thinking Scenic Express for my trees.

I never thought about Kadee’s. Is there really a difference? What # should I use? Or should I just write Kadee and ask them?

Actually, the real question is, standard gauge or narrow gauge.

The photo looks like standard gauge, like the really old original V&T locos that occasionally get steamed up (at 40psi) at the Nevada Railroad Museum in Carson City.

Then there’s the Las Vegas lawyer who owns a beautifully restored three foot gauge 4-4-0.

As for me, I MIGHT be able to afford a broken coupler knuckle in 1:1 scale.

(I already have 16 inches of 75# rail…)

you should write them, my knowledge only lies in there N scale version MTL. I wonder if those new magnetic air hoses are included installed or must be modeler installed. what size speaker for the decoder too?

Yes, it is standard gauge, only a short drive from me. I have not been their yet, they just started up. It is using a line that was previously used for several tourest rail ventures. Hope this one sticks around.

Reportedly it cost 5 millon to build the loco - and we think we have price complainers in HO!

Several locos of late 1800’s vintage at the B&O museum are still in working order last I spoke with some of the people I know there.

I’ve already warned the wife, if we ever hit the lotto big-time, wherever we end up- this will be the model of our backyard :

This is a restored 42" gauge ex-quarry locomotive, and the entire layout fits in a small city park in North San Diego. Although I would more likely build mine as a working Field Estate Rwy like the Heywood Estate Rwy.

Atlas is producing a N Scale version of North Central’s York: http://www.atlasrr.com/NLoco/n440loco1.htm
