Well. This year I decided to participate in our local United Way Day of Caring event. I pondered the possibilities and put a tentative YES on the Company form and sent it in. I looked at some of the projects and just didn’t see anything that struck my fancy.
A few weeks ago I bumped into a friend that I’d not seen in a bit. He was a college intern when we met back in 1991, and we stayed in contact at least by phone since that time. He told me he was getting a Day Of Caring Crew together to work at a Local Transportation Museum. I told him to count me in!
Let me tell ya…What a day I had! I didn’t get to play with any trains but I was able to help out the Museum. I got to do an oil change and lube on an older forklift they had, helped to lay out some Museum display boards that were needed for one part in the Depot.
I also got “THE” tour of the facilities. I saw many projects that I could really sink my teeth into. So… I think I’m going to have to join the Museum and start working here. Got a nice RS1 that is just screaming for some detail and restoration work. Anyone have any idea how much wood and Masonite is in the cab of a RS1?
