Even using the computers at work that have a very fast internet connection people are still using several pictures in the signature of their posts. They do take time to load. But more frustrating is when I have to scroll past the same signature pictures over and over again.
I do like the pictures but when there are more pictures than there are words it becomes very annoying.
Please could we try and restrain ourselves to a single signature picture of say 2 square inches? This would limit the frustration and also be sympathetic to people that have a dial-up connection.
Your cookies should remember the pictures on your computer, so when reading threads the pics should come up with no down time, Im sure this is correct.
Although I dont have one, the picture signitures are a personal choice and it lets you know who’s responded without looking at the member name…
In your profile, you can select whether you want to see signatures with pictures or in text only mode. I have set mine to text oly and am happier with that!

is it any easier to tell whose picture it is if it is a single picture of 2 square inches than it is with 2 pictures each being a quater screen? de we really need t see the same picture over and over again? it is not the loading time i get frustrated with it is the time it takes to scroll through them. i dont mind people having a small picture in their signature. that is what the function is there for. but it is getting to be a pain in the neck! when more than half the space on a page (physical space not data size) is taken up buy the same pictures again and again.
I don’t find the pictures slow in loading when on a high speed connection, but I don’t think that’s the primary issue being discussed here. It’s the number and physical size (not file size) of the pictures in peoples signatures. It takes up room and can cause topics to go to several pages when they don’t need to.
It’s sort of odd when someone has a one line reply and yet that post takes up ten times the space it should because of all the pictures in their signature.
I have taken time to reduce the size of my signature pic. But the one thing I think most people do that they should refrain from, is including thier signature in every post even if they have replied more than once! We really don’t need to see it each time you reply. Joey
yes. but why scroll 4 metres down the page when you could only have to go a few inches. it is the physical size that is the problem. it is just getting daft.
I guess we have to remind people every so often. I too am blessed to be in an area where neither the phone company nor the cable company deems high speed service to be a need, so keeping the signature pics small (in byte count - doesn’t matter if it’s 800x600 if it’s only 20k!) is very much appreciated.
I don’t even bother clicking on ‘photo fun’ topics, but I EXPECT those to be full of pictures.
This and similar requests have been made before, even in the short time I’ve been here… A few will honor the request and the rest will just continue on their merry way [sigh]. Maybe it’s just me, and I know this wasn’t your exact request, but I fail to understand what’s so difficult about keeping the size of the photos down or just simply posting links to them [%-)]… Even if it were a forum rule to do so, people would still (purposely or not) continue to ignore it. So when I see the slider on my browser window shrink to a little sliver I hit the back button and move on.
When I quote someone in a thread, I always delete the photos in their reply before posting. To me that is just a common courtesy. If people want to see the photos again, they can always scroll back to see them. This becomes particularly annoying in a photo posting thread like Weekend Photo fun. One person posts 4 or 5 pics, and the next person quotes the pics and says, “nice”. The next person quotes the second person and all the photos and says, “Me too”. And so you have a mile and a half of the same photos over and over again before you can get to the next new set of photos so it can start all over again…
