I opened up my email account this morning only to find it stuffed with notifications of everybody who had replied to either a thread I started or a post I made in an existing thread. WHEN WAS THIS PUT IN??? Yes, I am extremely perturbed about this. Whoever did the re-design of this site had better change it, because this is silly. As someone who has been doing web design since the late 90’s, and as someone who has moderated message boards for over a decade, I can honestly say that someone is not doing their job properly. And, before I get wise crack replies, yes, I did uncheck the “Email me replies to this post.” button below when I posted, but that didn’t seem to have any effect. Furthermore, I should NOT have to uncheck anything to accomplish that - that should be the default!
Spank,
While I fully agree with you, this is a family focused forum… [:O]
Tell us how you REALLY feel. [:D][8o|]
While I agree that having to uncheck the “email replies” box is a pain, and it should be a global opt in/out thing, you could have sent a note to the moderator instead of splattering the walls—
Our online publishing section is monitoring all of the glitch and complaint threads in the MR, Trains, Classic Trains, Garden Railways, and CTT forums. A tremendous amount of data was migrated from the websites and there are bugs. Similarly, a lot of data from the forums was moved and not everything is working quite right. All I can tell you is they are working many issues to a resolution (while also maintaining 10 or so other websites for Kalmbach magazines).
You’re right - I’m sick, under a lot of stress and have a very long drive after work - anyway, I edited it so that it was more appropriate.
Thanks to CTT for this forum

Under your Public Profile over in the right hand column, click on (Edit), then scroll down and check ‘no’ to email notifications. You can also increase the standard font size at the same time.
Same thing happened to me, I hit the post button this morning and got bombed with emails. I’ve turned off everything I can find, hope that will stop it.
Me too. I don’t even know what most of the stuff I shut off is. For example, what is a content editor, and why would I care whether it is plain text, standard, or enhanced? What is a “conversation”, “comment”, “friend”, “blog”, “media gallery”, “group”, “wiki”, “shared feed”? I just unchecked everything.
If you click on start conversation in the lower right corner of a post an email form will open to the person that posted. If you have conversation blocked the words start conversation will not appear in your posts. It should have been called send an email to this poster not start conversation. The rest of the items I don’t know about.

Not to pee on your parade (and I’m not a big fan of the new layout, either–too much red, hard to read, etc,) but the email notifications were on even before the redesign–I used to get emails everytime a thread I posted in had another post in it–so much so that it filled my webmail box and I stopped getting email to that account until I emptied it. So it was going on prior to the site’s redesign, just for the record.
much to do about nothing. Someone needs to get a life
I have to agree with you that this is inacceptable. The red in the postings burns my eyes. Since the site change here, I have found my visits dwell time shorter, and me upset by the change. Hope it works out for others, but I am not happy with it, and feel it was a poor change.
Also signing in is a bit of a hassle; have to type the whole name & password everytime, even when clicking on remember me box.[banghead]

Look folks. CTT maintains this forum at no cost to us. It is an invaluable asset to our hobby. CTT spent money to give us an improved website, and they get blasted for the effort. I am absolutely sure they will work out the bugs over time.
CTT, thank you for this website and your efforts to improve it.

I saw 42 e-mails in my inbox I said to my self “Holy Cow” I must be really liked. But then I noticed it was just thread replies. [(-D]
I agree. The last changeover was the same and eventually the glitches were corrected.
To quote Lincoln, “You can.t please all of the people all of the time.”

Isn’t life exciting? Here we are in 2010. There are three (or more) major armed conflicts going on around the world. The economy ain’t as good as it should be. There are famines, floods and hurricanes. The list can go on and on…
So, lets all complain about the site and the electronic inconveniences.
This “older” guy, for one, has seen too much “real life” stuff to over-react to the new site changes. Often suggestions for improvements are better (especially like changing the “red” to another color --but that has already come up)
Of course there are improvements that can be made and glitches to be ironed out. I’d like to give them a chance.
Well, enough of that…Time to go play with my trains… Thanks for reading.
