[:(!]I just got word that some low life scumbag piece of [censored] has vandalized Hill 582. They destroyed the bench, the birdfeeder, the lockbox and ruined the bird seed. They probably destroyed the register (sign in) books in the box too. That makes me so [censored] mad I wish I could find the guilty party(s) and kick the you know what out of them.
Gees one lowest things a person can do—I share same feelins bud. Big shame that people have to ruin things for others to enjoy without destroying. I know the hurt well. Hank.
Gee, I hope they come back out there on a certain Sunday afternoon, Chad- you’ll have help!
There is a Southern Ry. caboose displayed at the old train depot near my house and it has now been graffitied twice! The first time it happened it was cleaned up then the 2nd time they just gave up hope of cleaning it. Now it has “Chris (heart’s) Kelly” I personally would like to know who gives a [censored]. I hate to hear about Hill 582, I was planning to visit there someday.
chad
sorry they ruined your railfan spot.some kids do not have the repesct for others or their property like we did when we were kids.I have an example in mind but i hope the people responsible get caught somehow.
stay safe

What is hill 582?
Is it a park or something?
Vandalism sucks, there is no doubt about that. Earlier this year we found that vandals had gone into the cemetery at our church and caused thousands of dollars of damage - not to mention the emotional pain of a loved one stopping to visit a grave and finding it in disarray. The people who do these things need to be punished harshly.
Hill 582 is a railfan spot in Cajon Pass. Chad has pictures that he’s posted a time or two on the forum- lots of interesting paraphernalia on display on that hilltop, was fixed up pretty nice.
Oh. Well I am sorry to hear about it, that’s for sure. My father just came back from a trip to California and got some great pictures of trains in that area. That’s too bad.
Vandalism for the sake of vandalism.
The other day I was headed for work when I noticed the FD “Chicken Barbeque” sign (out for a benefit BBQ this weekend) had been knocked over. There being no significant winds since the previous night, I pretty much ruled that out, but the sneaker print right in the middle of the sign, along with some other damage, proved that it was some of our local angels. I also noticed some small rocks from a nearby retaining wall in the middle of the road, and later noticed a stop sign (not too well anchored in the first place) had been knocked over as well.
Little twerps.
Larry,
I knew a guy once who was having issues with some teens with a 4x4 knocking over his mailbox. Every time he’d fix it, they’d come some night and knock it over again. He had a friend who worked for the electric company. One night after work he had this friend swing by with the truck they use to dig the holes for the utility poles.
After digging the hole to a good solid depth, hut put a large diameter (roughly the size of a utility pole I should imagine)schedule 80 pipe in, and filled it with concrete. He placed his mailbox upon it, and waited for a couple nights. Lo and behold, the teens came back. When they hit the new post, they pretty much totaled their truck. Upon inspection, the mail box post had moved about half an inch or so.
He hasn’t had any trouble with people messing with his mailbox ever since…
Say Chris went into your website tonite–liked the pixs alot. Hanker
It saddens me a great deal that we have a lot of young thugs in this country who get their kicks out of destroying private propery, historic landmarks, kids who vandalize cemeteries, etc. It makes me want to BEAT quite a few of them with a good length of 2 x 4. Of course, I would end up going to jail for assault and battery, when it’s the fault of the parents who have failed to raise their little brats properly!!

and will get worse and worse Im afraid.
There seems to be a sudden rash in people destroying benches in parks in the past three weeks…
A group of people could be using the web to start the destruction of park benches across the nation over the past month. Like the people who hop trains and post that on their web sites. Same type of people. There might even be web photos of this vandalisim somewhere.
Andrew
Chris - we had someone locally do that here. The vandalism stopped! Sometimes you have to just think a little smarter than they do. But experience has taught, you put it out there, someone will destroy it!
Solz,
Hill 585 is a spot that has been fixed up with trees and landscaped. It is an oasis of shade in an otherwise shadeless area. It is in the perfect spot for watching the action on all three tracks. A gentleman (that I don’t think wants his name mentioned) has done a beautifull job keeping the place up. There was a big bench, a register book, a birdfeeder, Trashcan and a few other things there. The registers were about 5 books worth of comments from visitors from all over the world. It wasn’t said but I assume all that is gone. There are also several plaques up there too (see pic) that are going to be removed for safekeeping by the caretaker.

Part of the issue is the sites very isolation, and the diverse people that use the canyon almost 24-7. From your harmless foamer to your Deliverance cast extra Inbred Jed’s on off-road vehicles and more dangerous gang-members who go up there to tag.
Ask me, this is one issue we could learn something from our Malaysian neighbors, namely bringing back capital punishement for those caught doing crimes like this. Remember the little punk caught vandelising a few years ago and was sentanced to a good caning? and all the whiners here crying that it was harsh and barbaric, well, after I’ll bet that little punka$$ will always think twice before being nefarious again…Should do what here. Vandalism=caning + jailtime. Tagging= surgical removal of a finger for each infraction, jail time and a stint washing railcars.
Chris,
Great story and that is truly the best way to get back at a few miscreants; beat them at their own game.
So camp out there & hope they return then confront them
Personally this comes as no suprise to me. Honetly it was bound to happen with the allowence of free off-roading up there. You can bet that it was a couple of pre-teenage kids thinking they were cool or at least trying to prove that to themselves. This hasn’t been the first time we’ve had problems up there. You guys know about all the problems at summit and why there is a giant hurricane fence, lights and a sercurity post there. It’s what California is becoming. Most of the good, honest people have been forced out, and the few of us still here are on the verge of explosion. For me, I’m ready to head back to Montana where I went to school. This kind of crap will never halt but only get worse. It’s called lack of education of respect. The brakedown of the family as fathers of these kind of people have not done their fatherly duty to teach the children respect, if the father is even around, and the mother in the workforce. Therefore it isn’t that important to these juveniles that some meaningful hill is worth a moment of reverence. I also blame today’s society and how we are taking a liberal action on criminals. I say that we should be more like the Asian Society much like what happen to that American a while back that graffiti in the city of Singapore: They beat his a**. I guess it much like the Mosaic Law: “an eye for an eye”. That sure would have there trouble-makers think twice about their actions.
Just my personal thoughts on my soapbox.
