Amtrak train # 50 near Odenton on the NEC put its last coach an Amfleet - 1 on the ground March 6. Reports are that the a lead wheel on the back truck had a low speed wheel shatter. No injuries but rear truck naturally landed on the ground.
However unconfirmed reports say 2 additional cars were bad ordered with suspect wheels today. Could this be a harbinger of more ? Car was an Amfleet - 1. Hope this is just a bad batch.
EDIT unconfirmed report said more than one wheel on each car.
Streak, I have a problem: Did you mean #5–the California Zephyr, which ordinarily is all Superliner except for the baggage car and does not run near Ogden unless it is being detoured across Wyoming or across the Great Salt Lake–or the Cardinal, which would be way out of its way if it were near Ogden?
A very crazy idea and most likely not able to happen. After looking at the Galena wreck thread could it be that the wheel(s) on the Amtrak derailment + bad ordered cars and the wheel(s) on oil train cars are manufactured by the same company ?
Do believe that the wheels are of different diameter ?
