After a great year of Railfanning last year, I am going to be going on 2, possibly 3 railfan trips this summer.
If anyone wants to meet up, drop me a line.
May 29th-31st- Illinois Railways Musuem- Heading up theri with Mike who wants to spend an day up there looking at the equipment, I going along to see the CNW 1518, SP 1518, GBW 2407 and Frisco 1630 (Sister to NMOT/St. Louis’s Frisco 1631)
June 22nd-24th/25th- Galsburg Railroad Days. I will be attending the Galsburg railroad days for the first time, and I am looking forward to it!
My last trip has yet to be planned, and I may not go. The last trip would be in August, and it will be a sequel trip to MONTANA. I will again be going with Kieth, but like I said, its possible that I might not go. I will up date you all weather or not I am still going
Well, since you brought up the topic… [}:)] I’m planning to head to Atlanta in August, and hit Indiana and various places in KY and TN on the way down, and Louisville (and probably Indianapolis) on the way back. Lots of details remain to be worked out – most will probably not be figured out till I’m actually on the trip! I’d like to check out shortlines/regionals and industrial railroads along the way, and I should have enough of my photo album application up and working that I’ll be able to post photos pretty much “as I go”… [C):-)] Though I’ll be driving, so I think some of that remains to be seen…
A tip about scheduling museum trips:
Check the touring schedule of “Thomas the Tank Engine” on their website before you schedule a trip. I didn’t do that last year end ended up among a whole army of 3 to 8 year olds.
In a way, it is great that this story/toy is introducing a whole new generation to railroads. I would just as soon not be there when it happens, however.
That’s the best way to do it.
I’ve had the Galesburg Railroad Days on my mind for awhile. I’ve never taken the time to go and check it out. Now that Amtrak has a very nice out and back in a day schedule from Naperville, IL, I might just head out that way this year. Of course, I’ll start tihinking more about summer once spring actually gets here.
