Thoughts on BLI UP MT-73 4-8-2

Hi guys,

I’m looking at purchasing my first dcc sound loco - a BLI UP MT-73 4-8-2, and was wondering whether anyone had one, and what you think of it. Any thoughts would be appreicated. Thanks.

Yes, I have one. Nice loco, but I have NO idea why I bought it, since I do not model UP. It’s a smooth runner, though I haven’t run it more than 10 hours or so, and a nice puller. The sound is quite good–especially since the speaker is in a semi-vanderbuilt tender with a small bottom opening.

Probably shouldn’t say this on the forum, but if you want to PM me, perhaps we could discuss this further.

Mine was a severe piece of [censored]. It would not crawl at all and was very jerky at any speed. I sent it back to BLI and it has been two months and they have not called me yet. I was very unpleased with its performance. I tried everything under the sun to break it in and get it running right. I am upset because I have the grey and silver model which had awesome detail and looked great. This is also the second one i had. The first made a loud grinding noise like one of those k-mart toys you pull back on the kitchen floor and let it go. If you get one I hope yours runs well. I think I had a taste of bad luck on this one. Also it needs 22" turns for sure. It will slow down and bind on anything smaller. Its drive wheels are rigid and close toegether.
