Thread For Dummies

As long as we’re spoofing “Threads fo Everybody,” I thought I start one for all those Darwin Award candidates we’ve always been hearing about and for stupid things we;ve seen peoplke do while railfanning.

While railfanning on CSX’s river line at Iona Island, NY I saw a woman attempt to drive a Jeep down the tracks to rescue her Son’s ATV which had died on the access road along side the tracks. What if a train had come?

If a train had come I suspect the average IQ of the planet would go up slightly.

A so-called adult stepped in front of an Amtrak train here in Mudville (Buffalo NYSSR, to those of you not aware of how bad it is in these parts![V]) killing herself. What a waste.

While out train watching last Thursday evening, I witnessed some extremely stupid behavior by two pre-teen boys- they ran out from a ballpark parking lot across one main to play tag with a freight on the other that had just stopped and was beginning to pull away. They were both wearing baseball uniforms, but apparently were not accompanied by parents.

Brian and others,if you really want to see total stupidity with both
adults and children;come down here and we’ll go railfanning together.
In the area where we live, there are only grade crossings for approx.
12 blocks;when a train comes through and blocks most of those crossings at the same time, people will do just about anything to get to the other side.
Stopped or moving, they will climb between cars, try their best to beat the train;when stopped,we’ve witnessed people go under the cars not realizing
the train could start back up at any given moment. It’s gotten very hairy,
and scary more than once or twice.[xx(]

So you want to witness some real Darwin Award Winners huh??? Take a trip on over to Louisville, KY at the Virginia Ave Interlocking along the NS mainline. In particular at the Dumesnil Ave grade crossing. People do not understand the concept of stop, look, and listen, whatsoever.

I have video of a stupid “adult” woman who stoped on the tracks as the train was bearing down on her at about 20mph, horns blaring and all. Anyway, she stoped on the tracks to look at me and a friend of mine filming the train. She smiled then kept going. She didn’t look at the train that was comming down on her whatsoever.

Another guy at the Dumesnil Ave crossing on a bike almost got creamed by an oncomming train. He just kept biking along as the flashing lights, along with the train horn going off. Can we say stupid???

SWEEETHEART Where has this thread been all my life!

I was at work, and we were pushing in for the joint to our dining car. We stopped so we could line up the knuckles. Right as we are about to move, one of the other employees (not a railroad enthusiast) props his foot up on the baggage car and attempts to lift a cooler up to the other employee.

I absolutly let him have it. Genius at work.
