The name-calling and mud-slinging can begin later. For now, just be grateful these folks are recovering.
Dispatcher issued track use authority requesting the waiting to meet two opposing trains. The engineer was using his private cell phone for personal call while the order was being issued to the conductor. The order was not fully understood by either and they failed to wait for the second train. NS made a proper correction to the dispatching system and will not issue any authority to operate until the track is clear, therefore, no form will request a wait for a train. The trains must arrive and pass before authority is issued to move. Good call by NS, as men make mistakes, such as using the cell phone and not fully understanding the limits of authority. Have the other railroads adopted the same safety correction? Thank God that the for men lived through the accident.
