TIBS-the Train and Industry Blocking System

Just what I was looking for to start learning operations,
Thanks

Terrific article. Maybe not so much “to start learning operations.” TIBS is about making sure that guest operators make up / break trains efficiently for eventual delivery to consignees who may be off layout.

To BEGIN operating, not to take away from the many excellent articles and books thereon, I think it’s necessary to first learn how to compress trains going at different speeds, probably in opposite directions, onto a limited amount of track. Andy Sperandeo’s many pieces about timetables and train superiority will help there, as will just running trains around under the helpful and gentle eye of a more experienced mentor. Car cards – that’s for later. JMHO.

This appears to be good info and I just downloaded Dan’s pdf.
Also a very interesting read.
Thanks for the tips.

Dan said it right-we don’t have an army of clerks standing by. I have been using a blank credit card/colored tag system and my switching zones are in group numbers 1xx, 2xx, etc. similar to Dan’s A,B,C system for easy block sorting. This makes it easier for new personnel to identify the zones for blocking and delivery setups. Great article!
