I requested and paid for MODEL RAILROADER’S HOW TO BUILD REALISTIC LAYOUTS, got a confirmation dated March 22. Today is April 27 and No Book and they haven’t responded to my e-mail.
Are they a DASH WITH CASH publisher?
They want me to subscribe to MR but I won’t.
Does anyone else have this problem. Sent another e-mail today.

I don’t remember the date, but I believe that it is not due out until May or June. Just hang on, it will come.
“They want me to subscribe to MR but I won’t.”
Thank goodness you’re not mad enough to quit using their free forums.
ever heard the phrase
“allow four to six weeks for delivery”
You are clearly put out by their apparent tardiness and indifference, but I think you have jumped the gun a bit in your enthusiasm. They are busy, effective people who run a decent business, so surely you don’t believe that they are out to make people miserable, or to resort to theft, which is pretty much what you are saying.
Be patient; it will come.
saldana17,
if you click on the link at the side of the page for the layouts issue, it says shipping in early MAY! right below the picture of the cover!!!
that info took me about eight seconds of searching to find!!![:-^][#wstupid]
I got one of these envelopes attached as a page protector to my MR a few months back. They wanted it returned NLT 19 April. About 10-12 April I ordered it electronically from their webpage. The one I got in the mail gave a mid-May on sale date. I didn’t expect an e-mail confirmation - what was I going to do with it if I got it? I’ll know if my electronic purchase went through when my order posts to my plastic. If it does and I don’t get it I’ll make an inquiry.
I’ve dealt with Kalmbach off and on for many, many years - and old A.C. instilled a very strong sense of ethics in his company. Like everybody else I sometimes clench my teeth over their editorial content but there is nothing unethical - or shoddy - about their business practices.
The latest MR (June) lists the Realistic Layouts newstand date as May 23. Like most products MR produces, I would expect many people to get the special issue a few days before the 23rd.
I’d relax if I were you. Other magazines and products not from Kalmbach are often weeks and even months late. For example, RailModel Journal is often a month or two behind their magazine’s cover date. MR’s always on time, or even early. [swg]
Me? I’m sticking with Kalmbach. They put out quality products. I get their Build a Dream series on DVD. Some of the articles are rehashes, but I have found something useful on each one. I strayed once, and subscribed to a different mag, but they were more than a month behind in their publish dates. I have happily returned to the fold.
Instead of crying up here over nothing, why don’t you call their customer service 800 number and find out what everyone else is telling you!!!
Although I disagree with some of the editorial decisions made at Kalmbach, I’ll never believe that Kalmbach is a “dash with the cash” company. I’ve read/heard many instances of an issue getting destroyed in the mail and a replacement copy was sent out after a quick phone call. I remember once writing a letter to the RPO column and receiving in the mail a hand written letter from Andy along with some photocopied pages of a way old issue. And of course, who can say they’re bad guys for funding and supporting this forum?
IMHO when you take the pros versus the cons, Kalmbach is way over on the “good guy” side of life.
This issue is not due to ship until May 23, 06. I am also waiting for it

With all the spam and virus filters, its possible your email got filtered out before they saw it. I would wait until after the newstand date and then call them.
Enjoy

The 11th Commandment: Thou shall not vent about Kalmbach on their forum or ye shall surely bring the wrath of many forum members down on you. [:o)][(-D]
I’d say chill out for for a bit. All good things take time. I signed up for MR mag and they’ve sent me 2 issues without a payment yet. I’ve got my issues about a week before they’ve hit the newstands.
PS-I’m sending my $30 today incase some one is listening[:D]
Once again proving that a former coworker was correct in his assessment:
“If the explanation of a failure comes down to a conspiracy or incompetence, go with incompetence every time.”
[#oops]
If they took time to confirm my order they also could take time to respond to my first e-mail.
Ebay responds to e-mail with-in 24 hours. Epson does also. All they needed to do was type, “Due out 5-23”.
The Dash with cash got a responce. I still buy MR over Nscale mag, does have better articles that work in all gauges. Plus I print alot of the forum off to read.
The “SHOCK” statement was for a diffinate responce. If I offended, sorry. I just wanted my email answered. They started the confirmation out with:
“We have noted your request. If there are any problems with your request, we will contact you via email.”
I figured that if they would contact me via e-mail that I should do the same.
I will post here if I get a responce from them.
Dash with the cash…You got to be kidding these folks have been putting out Model Railroader since the 1930’s…and they have a top line product and great service! …Cox 47
Its funny how people just fly off the handle these days over nothing. Imagine if this was the old Wild West, lol. There would have been a gun fight at high noon, just because somebody doesn’t know how to read, lolol. [B)][xx(]
