Timber Trestles Still in Use

I’m in the process of adding a timber trestle to my N Scale layout and that starts me wondering how many are still in use on real railroads. I would imagine these are becoming increasingly rare. Are there a lot of timber trestles still in use today?

Here in the upper Great Plaines they are common, especially on branch and light density lines.

There’s one in Keewatin MN that has one or more loaded taconite pellet trains a day over it. Several more timber approaches on the ex GN lines.

Over on trainboy’s “Epic Cabride Video” thread, you can see up close a timber trestle carrying a highway over the CP line. Unfortunately, I forget how far into the trip it is.

You can find some timber trestles here: http://www.aslrra.org/45gsuccess.pdf.

Some have been replaced. Others have been redone with timber.
