I just bought me a new ZW, with a tmcc commander and cab 1, when I install this setup, is there any thing I need to keep an eye out for when rewiring? Currently I have 2 blocks, one on each loop of track, with multi feed drops from a central terminal strip under the layout. Some of my track power and accessory power runs together as it travels under the layout from distribution block to the individual accessory.
TMCC needs a good ground. My layout is divided into three real blocks. One for each loop and then all the sidings are insulated from the main lines [mini blocks but run off of the same buss bar]. I had my Command Base under my layout with the transformers and DCS TIU. I got some signal problems so I brought it up to the top. Since then, no problems. Tracks running over tracks sometimes gives signal problems. A grounded wire running over the track below helps. Some use “rabbit wire” in tunnels and etc. Hook it up and it will probably work fine.
The “good ground” is especially true where the Command Base is plugged-in. It should be plugged-in DIRECTLY to a grounded wall receptical, or if using a power strip, plug it into a 3-prong adapter, run a wire from the adapter ground prong to a radiator or water pipe, THEN plug into the power strip. I didn’t realise the importance of this, thinking these were simply “safety” tips. Joe
