Tips For Squelching A Scanner For Railfanning

I bought a BC125AT and a smiley 5/8 wave antenna I programmed the scanner but I still get a lot of static. Does anyone have any good tips for squelching my radio>

there should be two knobs…one volume (probably on-off switch) the other knob is squelch (turn CCW until quiet …no more, stop when it is quiet or you will have it squelched too much. Have fun listening.
It might be worthwhile to find some two way that is active to check out monitoring them. endmrw0408251829

The height of your antenna helps as well

Ive used a diamond antenna specially designed for the AAR channels, and have varying success

I can get the NS Mon line with no issues, and have even gotten Conway yard on some days… over 50 miles away from me.

Did you reinitialize before programming channels?

See here for the required firmware update if you haven’t already done it. (You should see a software revision number at the bottom of the display if an update has been done. Current as of 2022 was 1.06.06)
