Tips on making conifers?

I am trying different methods for making realistic looking conifer trees. I have tried the blue A/C filter method with some success. How do you go about making these trees from sisal rope glued to a wire armature, then twisted with a variable speed drill motor?[?] What type of wire(solid, stranded, gauge) is used for this hairpin like armature and where can I get some?[?] Looking for specifics on this method if anyone can help. I bookmarked this thing a long time ago.

There’s a lot of good stuff here, including conifer making.

I found it easiest to dig the planting hole 3x the diameter of the pot, fill with water and insert the conifer tree. Back fill the hole with dirt, mulch at least 2" to retain moisture and water daily for the first week. Should have 3-4 ft of growth per year, more in ideal conditions.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I’m in G scale outdoor [:D][:P]

You need to check out Selkirk Scenery http://members.shaw.ca/twofootBill/shopSelkirk.htm, some of the greatest conifers. The how to on the web site tells all materials needed and a step by step tutorial.

Bob K. Webpage you refer to no longer exists. Is there another way to get this info?
