tips/tricks for splitting scenic designs rubber track bed?

hello.

i got my boxes of N Scale track bed so i can finally play around with laying out my concept on my 4x8 sheet

its a real pain to split the track bed for the flex track turns, i’ve tried folding it back and forth to loosen it up and then i use a very sharp knife to slowly cut down the middle where the semi-perforation already it but its coming out sloppy here and there

I don’t know if this will help you or not, but I have been using many push pins to hold the curve while using the tacky glue to hold it down. This helps hold the curve while the glue dries. When I see an area that puffs up, I put in another pin and that seems to help it. I am planning on ballasting with gravel on top of this so it doesn’t need to look perfect. I am using the HO rolls so it may be a little different, and I am laying 22 and 24 degree curves. I know that next time I will go back to cork as this stuff is not that easy to use. Hope this helps.

I’ve been using there heavy duty t shaped pins The hard part is cutting it straight but my wife is a doc so I’m going to have her try cutting some Matthew

I didn’t cut the slit at all, just slowly curved it while following the guide line I had drawn.

Really? Dd you use some trick, because mine was coming up off of the surface when I made even a small curve…

id be a lot happier if I could make it curve without slicing it up

well the only trick I have is alot of tacky glue from WS, and alot of pins. On the inside of the curve, I put one every half inch. I tried once to cut slits, but it looked terrible, so I just took my time and waited until the glue was very tacky, and then put the pins in and let it sit. Then the next day, I went back and reglued and pinned the areas that were popping up. It isn’t perfect, but it won’t be seen after the gravel is applied.
