Just a quick question to the Forum. If I have a lionel ZW I can sound the horns in my LTI American flyer trains. If I upgrade to TMC or the new legacy can I still operate the sound, bell and horn? Or do I have to replace the older LTI electronics for a new sound board? How about the E unit, can you still change directions? Thanks for the help.
Hello J Daddy:
I am not sure what you are asking. Since you are running American Flyer (S gauge), I don’t believe Legacy will work for you, yet. You can set up TMCC on your layout. However, to continue using your existing engines, you may need a powermaster or a TPC (depending on the type of ZW you have) in order to be able to control the voltage on the track from your remote. The bell and horn will still work because the engine is still being operated in conventional mode even though you are using the TMCC remote.
I am far from a TMCC expert and others may be able to provide more input. For additional help, there is a website dedicated to TMCC use for S gauge:
Good luck.

John
I have an older ZW R type with inline sound activation buttons hooked from the transformer to the track. The LTI American flyer has pre TMC electronics in them that have sound and an E unit. So I guess my question is if I buy the power master/TPC with the remote will it take the place of these sound activation buttons that were previously released with the LTI B units…or will the sound unit buttons still have to be hooked up as is?
Hello J Daddy:
That is a good question. If it was a O gauge train, the answer would be that, yes, the remote control would be able to activate the sounds (and change directions) while operating the engine through a powermaster (or TPC). For AF, I cannot say. Hopefully someone else will be able to chime in.

John
