I operate both TMCC and transformer for my 0 ga Lionel trains. Sometimes the TMCC works just fine and other times I can’t get the train to do anything. In fact I got so frustrated I just use the transformer now. Anybody else have this problem? Bill
First how big is your loop for TMCC. I’m thinking it could be a ground problem. If you don’t have good ground it can cause that. As your suppose to be running TMCC on your ground side. Also if your using track like gar graves it helps to have a connector a few times going from outside rail to outside rail to make sure you have ground on both sides. Do you have any tunnels and if so is your problem there or near there? when running in conventional mode do you have areas your trains slow down or lighted caboose/passenger car blink could mean poor connections there. All could be part of your problem I have done a loop as big as 9 X 12 with just one lead with no problems. but I had very good connections and wire going from out side to outside rails about 3 places. Hope this may help some sure others will comment also that know a lot more about TMCC than I do I’m a novice actually with it but thought I would give you a few common ideas.
Does this problem happen mostly in the dry summer months? If so it could be an earth ground problem
The problems that I had were all caused by the use of the PowerMaster Base.
The reason that I do not have any TMCC problems now is because I use Track Power Controller 300W units with 180W PowerHouse Transfomers.

TMCC is a digital command system. Conventional operation is just Votage regulation. Wnen you “Initialize” your locomotive, you program a digital address in it’s memory circuit. If the programing is lost (errased), the locomotive will go brain dead - that’s the reason why it works just fine in conventional mode. You may be errasing the programing, when you switch between modes. You may also want to install the 9-volt battery into the locomotive, to save your settings in conventional mode.[8D]
