of course! i finaly get a tmcc locomotive and they come out with tmcc2 (legacy) system, and now they are putting tmcc2 in all the new loco,s particulatly the ones i want it seems (new GP-9’s and UP heratage locomotives) so what i want to know is will a tmcc2 loco run on the first tmcc system?
Yes, BUT, you will not be able to access Legacy specific features re sound/control. This may be a non issue as there are a lot of sound and control features you can access even from the older system.
Yes. Many have been running the newley released Big Boy using Cab 1 and Command Base waiting for Legacy to be released.

If you don’t want to buy Legacy now, no problem. Legacy equiped locos run fine on old TMCC1 and CAB 1.
do you guys belive legacy is worth the cash right now? or do you think that TMCC is good for now?
I don’t think any of us can answer that question for you. How many loco’s do you own? How to you play with them? How many are Odyssey equipped? How many have Railsounds 5.0. There are features in the new system that allow you to enjoy/control even your oldest loco’s in new ways. The newer the engine and the more features it has, the more room there is for “upgrading” your experience. Personally I will wait. Not for the price to come down or for “debugging” but because I can do everything I want to do with what I have. Other feel differently or have different needs. Good luck with your decision.
I run both TMCC and DCS. I agree with Chuck. Read as much as you can on Legacy and it’s features. Note how you run your trains and decide how much the addition of Legacy will enhance how you run your trains.
For me. I want to feel one in my hand first. I have a walkaround layout and uncouple by hand doing switching moves. I have DCS and feel it works best even for my TMCC engines as far as being able to opperate with one hand and freeing the other one up. MTH is again upgrading to another version with more TMCC features. I’ll either wait for the dust to settle and decide. Or if they happen to make a new must have Legacy engine I’ll probably go that route.
If you had Legacy, you’d throw away that DCS remote when running any TMCC equiped engines [Lionel, Atlas and Weaver]. I started with DCS and ran TMCC for a while with DCS remote. Then I got a CAB1. Then I got two. Will never again run TMCC engines with DCS remote. Of course, one reason is I have a lot of TMCC engines and run mostly lashup.
Chuck, I am going to have to read more. Tried to enter a diesel with the chip for generic diesel. Went through the menu. Did not want to start up right. Then it messed with the board. Ended up re-entering the engine # and then had to do a factory reset to get it back in line. Back running it in CAB1 mode. CAB1 mode is great but with the CAB2 features, you get to see the scale on the screen showing the set speed and the train going to that speed. Get to see boost and brake on the screen in a scale form. Also some other features that are great.
Was it a Lionel diesel or a licensee? I think somone on OG board posted that the non Lionel diesel’s will not start up the same way? Sort of like the way you were supposed to start up Oddysey loco’s vrs non Odyssey, hit ENG ## then Boost?
do you guys know where i can find after market tmcc chips for my non tmcc equiped locos? i have found one place called digatal dynamics, they sell the TMCC chips after market, but i am conserned about going inside my lionel and k-line locos.
Unless the engines are command ready and have “backplanes”, you are going to have to to do some surgery to convert them. There are three sources for TMCC and Railsounds components; Digital Dyamics, Electric RR, and Train America Studios. TAS will do the work for a fee, you send them the loco. DD and ERR are more for do it yourselfer’s.
Early Lionel TMCC without Odyssey. Atlas engines with TMCC have to have a key or button pushed after hitting startup on new remote.
I have converted several non-TMCC engines. Soem had new electronic reversing units, some were the old pullmore motors with old EUnits. I got the TMCC kits from Digital Dynamics. TAS is over priced for me. Electric RR is promising. Will chat with them before next conversions.
BTW: Chuck, you have mail.
