To Loose my mind or my eyesight

I’ve spent the last 3 hours applying Detail Associates F unit details to some Stewarts. I have had these for some time now and never had finished them- haven’t even been run.

These are actually part of the last run of Stewarts before the tranfer/ sale to Bowser. these were a special run co-ordinated by Bessimer Hobbies- couldn’t pass them up. I do wish they were available in Genesis but detailed properly can look very good. Stewart has an excellent drive, but there’s nothing better than a Highliner shell.

They are in Western Maryland Circus scheme, 2) F3As rebuilt to F7 specs, 2) F7As and the only F7B in that paint.

I have detailed numerous Stewart Fs for my B&O roster in the past, but now I think age is creeping up on me. Don’t mind all the drilling for the grabs but I think it’s time for an Optivisor or lighted magnifier.

Just couldn’t take it anymore for one session, the eye strain was too much.

Funny, just read a recent thread on this same thing and didnt give it much thought- I do now.

Has this happened to you?

I hear ya !

Bob, I don’t know how old you are, but I just turned 68, and I have to take my glasses off to read and see some things, then I need to magnifier to see tiny things up close…its crazy!!! And I know that it won’t get any better unless they come up with some miracle for tired old eyes that have seen too much sunlight.

I’m 54, have noticed over the past few years that I need more light to do the same work.

Spent half the time tonight with my glasses on the workbench while holding the shell under the drafting light. Center punching w/ the Xacto for those tiny locating (NBWs)marks for the grabs was tough.

I’m only 42 and I had to get reading glasses for my brand new contacts.[V] Having diabetes doesn’t help. Hope to finish my layout before I go blind. Those magni-visors are a God send.

Been there, done that.

Then I had Lasik surgery! Suddenly my visual acuity improved by about thirty years’ worth. I still need close-up magnification help, but ordinary reading and long-range vision is very much improved. [:)]

All I need now is for someone to come up with an equivalent treatment for severely arthritic fingers…[sigh]

Better yet would be complete rejuvination, but that won’t be developed until some time in the 26th century.

I’ve only been in MRRing for about the last three years. At 47, I am getting farsighted so I need reading glasses to view things up close. (I’m wearing them right now just to view the monitor.)

Even in HO scale, the Optivisors are absolutely wonderful! I use them for painting, scratch-building and putting models together. They are always within arms reach and a must for doing the detailed work that I want to have on my models. Buy a pair. You won’t regret it.

It finally got me a year ago at age 51. My solution? I sold off all my HO and have switched to 2-rail O-scale!

Lose the mind first! even if you can’t remember what the loco/consist/whatever is, you’ll see it!
