Why did I list all of this? Because these are the things we have all been
saying we wanted to see more of in the magazine (threads on Tinplate,
Classic trains, Other Brands besides Lionel, Nostalgia) and you all did
a bang-up juob of delivering the goods!!
So instead of a customary thread griping about something/requesting
something, I thought you guys should get a big “ATTA BOY” and “GOOD
JOB” for this one! Keep 'em coming! Thanks again!
PS…Even the wife enjoyed this issue! (She’s a toy train operator, too!)

The issue arrived today and it was a great afternoon of reading. I’m just planning my first layout and the article about Pete’s layout has given me the confidence to get started. Thanks! Bob
I also received my issue today, and I agree wholeheartedly. Also, a wonderful contrast to the last (April) issue of OGR, which frankly had very little to offer. Congratulations on a great issue, and keep it up!
I got my issue on Thursday, but this is the first chance I have to write a note to you. This is a very good issue. It has a lot of interesting stuff in it that regular people can relate to like the Williams GE 44ton locomotive, the little EMD Beep,and the MTH switcher. These are the kind of things that are more affordable and will be bought by regular people that want to run trains and have a nice layout without having to go into debt. I liked the fact that you had articles on the older style track and stuff that can operate on it. Most people are still using this stuff so they want to know how to use it better. It also shows that you can do most anything with patience and basic materials. The article on electrical wiring and switches should help a lot of people who want to add things to their layouts that they already have up and running. Thank you very much for the great articles and photos.
And one more “Kudos”! The layout plan Terry Thompson reviews is the plan I wanted for my own layout. But living in a condo, and being restricted in the length of my straight-a-ways, I bent it into an “L” shape, and placed the sidings on the inside. Still, the train going from the outside main, to an outter passing track, disappearing, and then passing under the main and into the inside line is a terrific feature.
I still didn’t have room for the reversing loops. And I agree with Terry that it is a much needed feature.
I haven’t gotten mine either, but I too am anxious to see it.
I hate to burst anyone’s bubble here, but this issue has been in the planning stages for months, as is true with any magazine, and its timing is probably more of a coincidence, than anything else. But the fact that everyone seems to be enjoying it so much is certianly worth saying THANK YOU.[swg][tup][tup]
I got my copy late last week, Thursday, I think. I really liked Pete Vollmer’s “Practice layout.” The track plan was, I thought, excellent and the scenicing superb.
I’m sure it’s good, but still waiitng in Hawaii. Usually shows up 3-4 weeks from the first post about it, and by then, all I need is the pictures to go along with all the articles thoroughly discussed here. [:)]
Much to my surprise, my copy showed up today. Very nice! Did anyone happen to catch the by line on Pete’s Practice Layout??? None other than our own Dave Vergun (F J and G). Well done Dave!!![:D]
I know that these magazines are preplanned a few months in advance but when I came here to this forum I noticed that people were complaining about these things for quite a long time so I think that maybe what the guy who started this post means is that the magazine publishers have been reading this stuff all along. Anyway it is a good issue and if I see more good issues maybe I’ll subscribe so I can learn more stuff about my older trains.
Got mine yesterday and missed my Law and Order “fix” on USA and TNN to read over it [wife and I usually watch back to back L&O when nothing else great is on]. Looks great.
I especially noticed the great photography of Pete’s layout. Like I’ve said in the past, I don’t want to see close-up portraits of locomotives in an article about a layout. Good job.
